Introduction to Arduino - Current

Digital Ecology Lab Presentation. Tuesday 12 November, 10 to 4pm. Old city library, Civic Place, 81-83 Katoomba St, Katoomba, NSW 2780.

A five hour presentation and hands on demonstration of the Arduino IDE (Integrated Development Environment) along with a detailed look at the Arduino programmable circuit board (PCB) also referred to as a microcontroller. A prototype Motor/Light/Sensor/Sound project is presented and demonstrates the use of an Ultrasonic Range Finder to trigger a diffused white 10mm LED, a small 6V DC Motor and a Mono 16 Bit, 22,050 Khz WAV audio file. The prototype demonstrates the use of a number of electronic components including an Arduino Uno R3 microcontroller, an Adafruit Wave Shield for Arduino Kit (v1.1) and a LV-MaxSonar-EZ1 High Performance Sonar Range Finder. Complete workshop notes are provided to all participants who are encouraged to develop a small scale project with the technology. A follow up one on one session with each participant is encouraged if a project is in development.

Introduction to Arduino & mixed media fabrication - Closed

Workshop Description

Introduction to Arduino & mixed media fabrication is a practical hands on workshop that demonstrates creative, tech-enhanced media to produce interactive encounters with any artworks. The workshop covers the application of creative coding, micro-controllers and electronic, mixed media and uses software and hardware applications (solutions) to introduce (interface) elements of light, sound and movement design, wiring & soldering and electronic hardware & fabrication design.

Who we are.

Solange Kershaw & Damian Castaldi are artists who work with interactive, time based, mixed media. They have backgrounds in visual art, music composition, sound design, acoustic engineering, installation and performance and first met in 1998 through their ABC executive producer Robyn Ravlich. They recently relocated to Kandos after living in Blackheath in the upper Blue Mountains where over the past three years they have established themselves as working artists. Together Solange and Damian run a digital media production company called the Last Bureau and will be exhibiting their work in the upcoming Cementa Festival 2017.

Time, Date & Venue.

The workshop will run from 11am to 2pm on Saturday the 26th of November at Kandos Projects, 18 Angus Avenue Kandos 2848.

What participants will need to bring.

Participants will need to bring their own laptop computers running either Windows, Linux or Mac operating Systems.

Please have the Arduino software installed prior to attending the workshop.

The Arduino software is freely available to download from: https://www.arduino.cc/en/Main/Software

Previous coding skill & knowledge is not necessary but personal computer skills are.

Participants can also work in pairs and share a computer throughout the workshop.

Each participant (or pair of participants) will be provided with electronic components to work with on the day.

Thank You.
